Institute for Applied Journalism

At the Institute for Applied Journalism (ifap), activities are brought together from the subject areas of classic communication and media sciences, which can be described as audience research, content and impact research and special aspects of communicator research.

Public relations, journalism as well as structural changes in the media industry and the resulting media policy needs for action are the focus of our scientific analysis and prognosis. Some examples are the effects of social networks on the communication of political and economic organisations. Furthermore, questions in the context of cross media developments are becoming increasingly important. As a result, we scientifically monitor cross media strategies of regional daily newspapers, to which our faculty is closely connected thanks to institutional partnerships in journalism.

In the research area of public relations, the ifap’s activities form an additional foundation of the courses offered in the BA in Public Relations and Corporate Communications and the MA in Applied Communication Sciences.

Part of the ifap activities are the Copterlab Kiel, the publication series input, the J-School Kiel and the independent student news portal FHEWS
