Requirements

  • certificate for a first completed, professional media-oriented degree with a minimum grade of 2.0 (good), in which the central focus was the fundamental content of media and communication studies but also media production
  • a first professionally qualifying, closely related media studies degree with a grade of at least 2.0 (good) which specifically dealt with media and communication issues. Closely related are degree courses which included at least 60 credit points for compulsory fundamental and/or course-specific skills, e.g. fundamental academic and practice-oriented examination of the mass media of newspaper, magazine, photography, film, radio, television, computer and video games as well as interactive network media. The academic and practical skills included the following subject areas: media theory, media analysis, media use and impact research as well as the creation of mass media content and applications (in particular print media, radio, film, television, video and computer games and digital network media).

If some skills are missing, they must be made up. As a rule, a total of 300 credit points should be attained for completion of a master’s degree.

  • evidence of English language skills that correspond to at least level B 2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Example of accepted evidence can be found in Section 7 of the Examination Regulations for the master’s degree in Applied Communication Studies

The processing time for your application can take up to 2 weeks and the last possible date for enrolment is 31st March for the summer semester and 30th September for the winter semester.

  • May until 15.09. of each year (winter term)

Application

Documents to be submitted (in single copy):

  1. signed online application form to determine admission eligibility
  2. evidence of the above-mentioned university degree (bachelor’s certificate, course overview with grades with Bachelor’s grade, etc.) or if the first university degree was not completed: evidence that a maximum of 30 of the credit points required for the bachelor’s degree are still outstanding with a provisional average grade
  3. certificate of university entrance qualification
  4. certificate in the event of a name change (e.g. marriage certificate)
  5. if applicable, evidence of sufficient German language skills for applicants without a German university entrance qualification and without a German university degree (enrolment requirement in the case of admission)
To the online application

Admissions Procedure

Once your application documents are received by the Kiel University of Applied Sciences, they are checked for form and content by the Student Secretariat and the Examinations Office or the Examination Board of the degree program.

When your documents have been checked positively, you receive an invitation to enrol.

You are informed of the enrolment deadline with the notification of admission. If enrolment is not made on time, the right to the study place expires irrevocably. You can find more information on enrolment here.

If the examination of your documents reveals that the admission requirements have not been not met, you will receive a rejection notice with a corresponding justification.

Fees

There is a compulsory fee charged each semester for the Student Services Authority, the student body and the semester travel ticket.

Also, there is an administration charge for enrolment. This charge is non-refundable.
