Internship Office/Internship Matters
The internship office gives advice for students regarding pre-study internships and professional internships in the degree courses at the Faculty of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.
The following moodle course has been established to administrate the 10-week- internship:
Praktikum BA-Studiengänge IuE
(short form: Prak10)
This course provides all relevant information about the internship. An enrolment key is not required. You must register to the course before you start the internship. The recognition procedure also takes place within this course. Please look at the section “Frequently asked questions” first before you decide to contact the internship office.
Please sign up to this course before you start the internship.
The main goal of the professional training is to obtain specialist skills and knowledge and to be introduced to a hands-on working and learning environment that paves the way for entering a professional job based on the working area of the respective Bachelor’s degree.
It is beneficial to partake in projects with different areas of responsibility and tasks during the Bachelor’s degree.
The professional internship takes place in businesses or other facilities related to the professional practice and is supported and supervised by the university. It is part of the last study section and the minimum length is 10 weeks, except for holidays and other times of absence. Ideally, the students acquire specialist skills through hands-on experiences and gather relevant impressions of future working environments.
As far as possible, the internship offers the possibility to gain insights into operational management and organisation processes, the working atmosphere and potential social challenges in industrial companies.
Another major goal of the professional internship is to apply the theoretically obtained qualifications and knowledge under practical conditions and in a professional environment. For this reason and in most cases, it is not possible to recognise a vocational training that was completed before the beginning of the studies.
If desired, the internship can be attended abroad, too.
Usually, the 12-week pre-study internship should be completed before the beginning of the study course, at the latest after the third semester. To recognise the pre-study internship properly, please send the corresponding certificates (certificate of proficiency, internship certificates, activity reports, or similar) and a digital copy of your student identity card to: praktikumsamt.iue(at)fh-kiel.de.
The content of the internship should comply with the subjects in the respective degree course (mechatronics). The listed aspects below are recommendations. If significant deviations occur, please get in touch with the internship office at the Faculty of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.
Possible training content:
- PC training
- Application and development of hardware and software
- Basic training with measuring instruments
- Basic training with tools and machines
- Assistance in operational challenges
- Installation and wiring of electromechanical, electric and electronic components, devices and facilities
A started or completed vocational training may be recogniszed where appropriate.
In some cases, the companies require a certification which states that the 12-week pre-study internship is a compulsory internship. This certificate can be downloaded in the download area.
