Study focus

The master’s degree “Applied Communication Sciences” is a postgraduate study programme; required is a first university degree with 210 credit points. It can be acquired through the bachelor’s degree “Public Relations and Corporate Communications” at the UAS Kiel or at another university in a similar study degree in a communication, media, humanities or sociological discipline.

The study degree enables graduates to take on management functions in the fields of public relations or corporate communications. This is guaranteed through strategical project planning and the theoretical support of application-oriented and practical modules.

The conceptional and interdisciplinary focus of the study degree creates the foundation of a deepened understanding of complex communication, media, sociological and economical connections. In addition to the capacity of critical reflection and abstraction, the main focus is to gain specialised problem-solving skills. This includes, for example, dealing with social and ethical aspects of public relations whose functions and methods are discussed in various modules taking into consideration the social, legal and ethical responsibilities. The study sensitises students to the importance and necessity of civic engagement at all levels of society. Further focuses are the challenges and possibilities of new media and cross-medial work.

Statements of our graduates

“Today, as brand strategist at brandtouch° (strategic brand consulting and communications agency), I set the foundation of brands for their communication at every touchpoint of the brand. My studies and especially my project work helped me to develop an understanding for holistic communication, which is very helpful in my daily work.”
(Lisa Sendlmeier-Brunk, Brand Strategist at brandtouch GmbH)

“As multimedia manager, I am responsible for the production of various formats. The study degrees‘ focus on the numerous possibilities of new media, especially in the field of cross medial storytelling, provided interesting approaches that I can apply and develop in my daily work.”
