CampusArt-D

The broad campus of the University of Applied Sciences Kiel as it is known today was created only in the mid-1990s. Before this, the various institutes of the University were spread all over Kiel. In the mid-1990s, the state government decided to position them altogether on the vacant shipbuilding site of HDW (Howaldsche-Deutsche Werft). Previously this area was used for industrial production.

In 1995, funded by the state “Schleswig-Holstein”, the “Kunstlaboratorium” was started. Its opening was celebrated with artwork by ten renowned artists.

As a result of the artistic examination of this historic area, combined with the abandoned buildings and the hope of new beginning, concepts were created that may have seemed quite infeasible in those days.

These ideas were visionary and greatly valuable to the development of the campus, which today has become an attractive place for the people, who live, work and study here.

The cultural and communication center “Bunker-D”, which celebrated its tenth anniversary in the fall of 2016, presents eight different exhibitions every year.

Special exhibitions in the auditorium of the University of Applied Sciences in Kiel have already attracted well-known artists to visit the campus.

  • Sculpting and plastic
  • Graphic and painting
  • Photography and media art

The many publicly accessible works of art and the regular exhibitions in the gallery "Bunker-D" give the campus a special atmosphere and have changed the former industrial area into a modern art and culturalquarters.
