Working areas and activities

  • Regulation of electric drives and inverter systems
  • Power electronics for grid feed-in
  • Power electronics for electric and hybrid vehicles

The main target in the working group of power electronics and drives is to increase the efficiency of inverter systems through the help of the latest technology and to reduce the costs at the same time. This is achieved by using modern circuit topologies, FEM simulations and new wide-bandgap materials. It covers everything from the circuit development to the entire system development.

Regulation of electric machines and inverter systems

The regulation of electric machines and inverter systems forms one core area of the working group. It includes the regulation of wind power generator systems and electric drives in automation technology as well as the grid feed regulation.

Power electronic development of frequency inverters and DC/DC inverter

Another core area is the development of power electronic circuits based on si-semiconductor switches and the development with wide bandgap semiconductors like gallium nitride and silicon carbide.

Both driver circuits and power paths will be simulated with the FEM programme considering its leakage inductance.

Power electronic development of electric and hybrid vehicles

A further core area is based on the development of power electronics for electric and hybrid vehicles.
