Assignment

Education

The lab provides the students within the fields of naval architecture, offshore-system engineering and mechanical engineering a wide range of possibilities for complementing and expanding their theoretical knowledge with practical experiments. The offer is dedicated to Bachelor- and Master students as well as PhD-students, the latter performing their research in a cooperation of the Kiel University of Applied Sciences, Germany and the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark.

Transfer of Technology

According to the overall mission of a University of Applied Sciences, an essential task of this laboratory is to assist industry and consultants in generation of innovative products and solutions. To ensure proper implementation of scientific findings in new constructions, experiments and corresponding calculations are performed; thus enabling the adaption of general knowledge to special requirements, e.g. particular questions concerning the fatigue strength of welding-, screw- and glue connections on metallic and fibre-reinforced material can be answered.

Fundamental Research

Besides the mentioned projects, the laboratory’s facilities serve fundamental research, such as investigations of fatigue strength of welded constructions. The research projects are, for instance, supported by public funds and often manned by PhD-students.
