Goals and Fields of Action

Kiel University of Applied Sciences would like to expand existing internationalisation activities and develop them further in cooperation with all members of the university. Suitable measures are divided into two fields of action in particular:

1. Mobility and cross-border cooperation

The University supports the international mobility of students, lecturers and staff and promotes meaningful international cooperation and networks. This includes short stays abroad (excursions, conference and lecture trips, coordination meetings, etc.) as well as longer ones (internships and project stays, exchange semesters, dual degrees, project semesters, etc.). In the course of European integration, the member states of the European Union (EU) as well as the other Erasmus programme and partner countries are at the centre of these activities abroad. The responsible person is the Vice-President for International Affairs (VPA). The International Office (IO) coordinates all exchange programmes. The faculties are responsible for establishing contact, designing the content and selecting the international partner universities, which they coordinate with the IO and the Centre for Languages and Intercultural Competence (ZSIK).

"The great challenges and problems of the future do not stop at a city’s or a country’s border, they must be solved in international dialogue. That is why researchers of our university are part of international research teams.” Prof. Dr. Tobias Hochscherf, Vice-President

2. Internationalisation@home (I@H)

The international strategy also includes measures at the study locations of Kiel University of Applied Sciences, such as the internationalisation of studies, teaching, research and administration. This comprises internationally oriented activities, international elements in the curriculum, language teaching and an international teaching and learning culture which takes into account the diversity of the student body. I@H thus benefits all members of the university and increases the attractiveness of Kiel University of Applied Sciences as an international place to study. The main responsible persons are the responsible Vice-President (VPA), the faculties, the Centre for Languages and Intercultural Competence (ZSIK) and the Studienkolleg (StK). They are supported by the Diversity Officer. The best possible integration, counselling and support of international students at Kiel UAS are also part of I@H which is implemented in cooperation with the student counselling service and other stakeholders. The IO has an important cross-sectional task in this context; it looks after the foreign students in Kiel and Osterrönfeld, organises information events and offers an advisory service. The following target areas can be identified from the two fields of action in order to implement individual measures:

  • internationalisation of studies and teaching,
  • promotion of international mobility within a network of partner universities,
  • increasing the international attractiveness for all university members,
  • internationalisation of the study location in Schleswig-Holstein,
  • internationalisation of (applied) research,
  • organisational measures and procedural models.
