Our broad range of laboratory equipment is presented here with a few key aspects.

Mechanical properties and materials testing

  • Electric and hydraulic universal testing machines with load cells from 200 N to 250 kN for tensile and bending tests as well as shear strength determination
  • Hardness testing for Vickers, Brinell and Rockwell; micro hardness tester; nanoindenter
  • Indentation and scratch test for mechanical properties of thin films

Microscopy

  • Optical microscopy with various techniques for contrast, imaging and measuring (brightfield, darkfield, polarization, DIC, fluorescence, spectroscopy; 3D microscopy, including confocal microscopy and white-light interferometry)
  • High-resolution analytical electron microscopy with various detectors and contrast methods as well as EDS and EBSD
  • Atomic force microscopy (AFM) with many measuring modes in contact and non-contact, in air and in liquid

Characterization of properties and structure

  • Differential scanning calorimeter for the determination of transition temperatures and other thermal quantities over a wide temperature range
  • Determination of optical properties with spectroscopy from UV to IR in different setups
  • Electrochemical measurements and determination of corrosion parameters
  • X-ray diffraction
  • Particle size determination from dynamic light scattering

Preparation

  • Heat treatment with different furnaces, also under protective gas and for high temperatures
  • Sputter sources for coating
  • Sample preparation for optical microscopy and electron microscopy
