Business Game – Master’s in Business Management (non-consecutive)

The course ‘‚Business Simulation’‘ is not a classical lecture. Within a business simulation, students are supposed to take on the strategic and operative management of a company over several periods. As a result of all actions of the semester, there iswill be a share price which will be compared to competing companies and counted as partial performance of the final grade.

The seminar is consistsing of several partial performances, whose’s separate gradings are combined to a performance percentage. The course is takesing place in the following temporal context:

  • At the beginning there are presence seminars with a mandatory participation in which you will learn about the main features of the seminar, the game connections, the technical basics and the composition of the companies. The first test period takes place within the next seminar, the first test period will take place.
  • During 9 game periods (1 test period, 8 graded periods) the companies must make weekly operative decisions according to a detailed schedule, which arethat will be graded by the seminar leader. There will isbe weekly feedback for the whole market and optional company-specific explanations and discussions with the seminar leader.
  • During the game periods there will arebe other presence seminars according to a detailed schedule which is available in LMS:
    • In several presence lectures the companies have different tasks that they need to solve within board meetings and present them to the seminar leader afterwards. Each team member will isbe  evaluated separately. The assignments will arebe uploaded in to LMS at the beginning of the semester.
    • In further presence seminars, the results of the separate periods will beare presented and analysed.
    • After the half of the semester, there will be is a graded test about the decision-making competence of the participants.
    • At the end of the course, you have to write a summary about the reflection of the business game.

Students can decide for themselves with which fellow students they want to form a company. The following framework conditions are valid:

  • One company is consiststing of up to four students.
  • The determination of groups should be made before the first seminar, at the latest be clear after it and needs to be made by the students.
  • In LMS you can find a registration form for the teams. Please fill it in and send it (only one team member) to klaus-peter.stuhr(at)fh-kiel.de.
  • If students haven’t found other team members yet, they can send me the form with just their information.
  • The students of a company are responsible for one functional area of a company.

It is also mandatory for you that toyou register in LMS – at the latest at the beginning of the second seminar.

This registration is a precondition for the allocation of students to their companies. Those who aren’t registered in LMS, can’t be allocated to a group.

You will find the following in LMS before the first seminar

  • The introductory presentation with all substantial information including a detailed time schedule and the course assignments in the form of a pdf PDF file,
  • An Eexcel document for the registration of your company groups which you send to your seminar leader,
  • The manual for the company situation,
  • The initial situation for period 1.
