Maritime Systems

The maritime economy with an annual sales volume of up to 50 billion euros and around 400,000 direct and indirect jobs is one of the most important economic sectors in Germany. With more than 1,800 companies, around 45,000 employees and an annual turnover of around 9.2 billion euros, the maritime economy in Schleswig-Holstein is a central driving force of the Schleswig-Holstein economy*. Despite a difficult global market environment, the sub-sectors of the maritime economy remain sectors of the future: shipping, ports, shipbuilding and shipbuilding supply industries, marine technology, offshore wind energy and maritime research and development. The future viability of the maritime economy depends primarily on the development of new technologies and marketable innovations. An important competitive factor is the system capability of products and the development of system competence, ie the ability to develop and process entire value chains.
